Program Overview

The 3D Archaeological Recording and Visualisation Project will introduce participants to a broad range of 3D recording, mapping and visualization methods. They will be given hands-on instruction in these methods in the context of the major ancient Greek archaeological site of Eleusis. Eleusis is world famous as the location of the ancient Eleusinian mysteries and is located some 14 miles northwest of Athens and opposite the island of Salamis. During this field project, the participants will record the site's extensive architectural remains using terrestrial laser scanning and photogrammetry.

Student Testimonials
"Having taken part on the Field School for the 3D visualization of the archeological site of Eleusis, 2011, I gained the sufficient knowledge to be able to complete a 3D laser scanning project by myself. Additionally, I have acquired both the theoretical and the practical introduction issues to archeology and conservation, and how these sciences can cooperate with high technology techniques. Overall, it was a very fruitful experience, and especially the collaboration with people from different specialties. As a next step, I am confident that all our effort and work will be continued and used with the best way from the IHC and the other responsible institutions in order to promote efficiently the great heritage of Eleusis."
